When we hear the words “Forgive them, Father, for they know not what they do,” it’s easy to think of forgiveness as a lofty, almost unreachable ideal. Let’s be clear: this is not an excuse for anyone’s behavior. This is not letting anyone off the hook, and very pointedly, I am not practicing bypass by suggesting that you practice forgiveness in this powerful way to relieve anyone of their responsibilities.
